Jean Delpech's wartime memories
18/12/2023
Jean Delpech recounts his wartime experiences in handwritten notes.
At the end of his life, Jean Delpech recorded his memories in a notebook and on several loose sheets of paper. Did he want to write his autobiography? These writings recount the war years and his experience as a combatant, from his military service to his demobilization in 1940, and then his return to civilian life under the Occupation. A few notes mention his work as war reporter in 1945. Brigitte Delpech has transcribed her father’s handwriting. Some elements are in draft form, while others are more elaborate. Where the texts were numbered on the pages, we have opted for the last version, which is often the most complete. Punctuation has been restored to facilitate reading.
