Talk on Jean Delpech in Saint-Nazaire. ‘1945, on the spot: an artist-reporter in the ruins of Saint-Nazaire’
16/04/2025
To mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Poche de Saint-Nazaire, Jean Delpech was honoured on 27 March with a lecture on his work as a reporter.
"On 11 May 1945, those entering Saint-Nazaire discovered a landscape of ruins, with the submarine base emerging intact and massive. Jean Delpech, an artist and war correspondent, was fascinated by this landscape, and wandered around the port area, drawing the bunkers, the ruins, the men... He produced an original account, full of detail, oscillating between scientific rigor and a desire to highlight the derision of war."
