The paintings

The Musée de l’Armée only conserves two of Jean Delpech’s paintings in its collections, both oil paintings on canvas dating from 1944. They are extraordinarily dense compositions, almost comparable to strip cartoons: the artist covers the entire surface of both works with a whole multitude of scenes.

Stylistically, he remains faithful to his engravings and drawings: dense colour, thick outlines in black encircling flat areas of colour, and unusual perspectives. His interest in street scenes and taste for landscape and everyday life are also to be found in these canvases.
