The drawings
Drawing was Jean Delpech’s great passion and he always had a pencil and notebook with him. We can distinguish the periods when Delpech only produced drawings – during his military service, and the German campaign in 1945 – and the periods when he produced drawings and engravings alike.
His drawings are of varied types: works taken from life, technical drawings of weaponry and military equipment, preparatory drawings for larger compositions, recreations of events remembered or inspired by the media, and purely imaginary, allegorical works.
Most of his drawings are annotated, with captions or titles set in cartouches, effectively making them autonomous works.
